If you’re in need of a new brunch spot with tons of content potential, welcome to The Guild Hotel! Even though my time there was limited, I do feel like I got the chance to fully take in all of its beauty. But seriously, there’s nothing I love more than a place that offers good coffee and cute photo-op moments. Brunch hour takes place in their outdoor patio full of greenery and black & white table umbrellas, which gives it a classic look. Its ambiance reminded me of my very own garden brunch I hosted for my 21st Birthday back in 2018. Of course, I instantly loved it!
What’s So Great About The Guild Hotel?
Great question! The Guild Hotel in San Diego is a combination of both historic and modern design. It used to be Downtown San Diego’s YMCA. So, it’s officially a century-old historic landmark. How cool is that? However, it’s the unique art found within its walls that truly captured my attention.
I first heard about this place through my boss/bff when she mentioned that The Guild Hotel is the latest go-to spot for a happy hour. Although I didn’t try the cocktails I would definitely go back after witnessing the bar’s glamorous essence. Funny enough, around the same time my friend Kimberly sent me an Instagram post about The Guild Hotel suggesting we go for brunch. At that moment I knew I had to go!
Brunch Attire
For this occasion, I decided to keep it classy and simple. I opted for vintage jeans and a silky top. I got this beautiful yellow top from Princess Polly last year, which is the perfect brunch staple piece! My jeans are from the best vintage store in El Centro, California. So if you ever find yourself in The Imperial Valley please give Tiendique a visit. Not only will you find unique vintage pieces but the owner, Liz, is such a rad person. One item I’ve been obsessing over is my glass pearl hoop earrings from Target. I’ve gotten so many compliments on them and they are just so elegant, yet affordable. Lastly, my navy blue bag is a vintage piece from my mom’s closet that she has now passed down to me.
Let’s Talk About Food.
First of all, these baby pink menus are so cute! Secondly, aside from great coffee they also have the most delicious chocolate-chip banana bread. It literally melted in my mouth. That being said we ordered, “the birdcage” which comes with a fruit bowl, baked pastries and your choice of croissant.
GOLDEN TIP: Ask the waiter what kind of pastry they will be serving with “the birdcage” before deciding on the butter or chocolate-filled croissant. If Kimberly and I had known the pastry already had chocolate we would have gone with the buttery croissant for a better variety.
As a separate dish, we ordered the avocado toast which comes with poached eggs, pickled cherries, black garlic dust, and quinoa popcorn. Although we didn’t take a picture of it, do take my word that it was savory in every way possible. Paola Fog approved!
The Final Verdict.
Yays

Nays
- The Birdcage (Good, but I would recommend trying other items in the Brunch Menu first.)

Overall, The Guild Hotel is an experience of its own. You should check it out for yourself and if anything you’ll get great pictures while enjoying a coffee, a mimosa or a cocktail in the evening.
